Ukraine: No Fly Zone

The president of Ukraine is asking NATO countries to supply a no-fly zone in the skies above Ukraine. Some say it would result in an act of war against Russia because NATO planes would eventually shoot down Russian fighter jets. But during the Vietnam War most of the fighter jets (MIG 21) we fought against were manned by Russian pilots and the jets themselves were probably owned by Russia if not donated by Russia. It was not considered an act of war when we shot one down so why can't we do it now over the skies of Ukraine? And Russia was a nuclear power back then so the argument today that it might provoke a nuclear holocaust is preposterous. If Putin's goal is to reunite the Russian Empire, then for him to start a nuclear war over a no-fly zone would mean the total destruction of his beloved Russia. That certainly seems counterproductive to his intended legacy. Nuclear weapons still remain a deterrent because of the mutual destruction concept. It's a lose-lose situation that's why no country will use them. Not even a ruthless dictator. I say let the no-fly zone begin so we can give the Ukrainians a chance to save their country.
