From the Convention of States Sales Team: Why the feds refuse to address the immigration crisis -- and how Article V can help The historic immigration crisis at the southern border is a national embarrassment. Thanks in large part to the irresponsible rhetoric of the Biden administration and the Democratic party more broadly, thousands of migrants have tried to cross the border illegally. This not only endangers our Border Patrol agents and costs taxpayers money; it also threatens the very people leftists say they want to help. Hundreds of immigrants have died making the journey, and thousands have become, essentially, indentured servants to the cartels. The federal government doesn't have many jobs under the Constitution. But most Americans would agree that controlling immigration should be one of them. Apparently, they aren't even able to handle that simple task. Their incompetence in this area should make Americans wonder: why have we given the federal government control over other areas of American life? If they can't handle immigration, what makes us think they can handle the economy, education, the environment, or energy? An Article V Convention of States can rein in the power of the federal government and stop them from regulating these other areas of American life. But it can also encourage Congress to actually address the immigration crisis by imposing term limits on federal officials. Unlimited terms of office make our representatives wary of tackling politically dangerous issues. Their obsession with reelection means that things like immigration never get addressed, and their inaction eventually results in the crisis we see today. If we can limit their terms of office, we can remove this incentive to avoid controversial issues, and empower them to do the jobs they're actually permitted to do under our constitutional system.
