Huckabee says all the right things about immigration. It is at the end of the video on this page that Huckabee says that long term 'law abiding' illegal immigrants will be offered the option deportation or beginning the process of becoming an American citizen. Huckabee provides more details on how he will secure the nation from illegal immigration on his vaguely named The Secure America Plan page (here). Nonetheless, even though this page addresses how illegal immigrants will be registered (assuming they cooperate), it does not address how he proposes that some of them may become citizens. Huckabee proposes to send all the illegal immigrants out of the country, but then he says that they can go to the end of the line and apply to become citizens. With the current quotas, these people will never get citizenship. In addition Huckabee never says exactly how he is going to catch and punish employers for hiring illegal immigrants. Huckabee's position against illegal immigration seems to be something of a switch. CBS had the following to say. In 2005, Huckabee tried to make children of illegal immigrants eligible for scholarships and in-state college tuition. The Associated Press had this comment. Huckabee opposed a Republican lawmaker's efforts in 2005 to require proof of legal status when applying for state services that aren't federally mandated and proof of citizenship when registering to vote. Huckabee derided the bill as un-American and un-Christian and said the bill's sponsor drank a different 'Jesus juice.'
