Lord: 'Speaker Obama'

Well that didn't take long. The election is over and the House Republicans have deposed John Boehner (R-OH) as Speaker. Meet Speaker Barack Obama. Speaker Obama and his loyal number two, Joe Biden, spent last week rounding up the votes to get their Republican colleagues in the House to fund Obamacare and amnesty plus all manner of spending programs. The Republicans responded to Speaker Obama's requests. Violating quickly, briskly and exactly every last word of their campaign promises to defund Obamacare and to fight amnesty. The fix was in. And in an amazing feat over in the Senate, Speaker Obama has won an agreement that has him running Senate Republicans as well. After all that huffing and puffing about the executive order on amnesty, a number of Senate Republicans quickly signed up to help the Speaker get his funding for both Obamacare and amnesty. As noted by my colleague Gaston Mooney yesterday, nine GOP Senators quite specifically made it a point to vote to support Speaker Obama's so-called "CROmnibus" bill, which funded the Speaker's amnesty order. This was moments after voting on a point of order made by Texas Senator Ted Cruz that said the amnesty was un-constitutional. Those nine senators, as Mooney pointed out, were Senators Roberts (R-KS), Thune (R-SD), Burr (R-NC), Fischer (R-NE), Boozman (R-AR), Isakson (R-GA), Johanns (R-NE), Blunt (R-MO) and Hoeven (N-ND). The Obama lieutenants were out in full force in the Senate over the weekend. There was Pennsylvania's Arlen Toomey – oops, sorry – that would be Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) doing everything he could to rustle up votes for the Speaker's amnesty and full funding for Obamacare in the CROmnibus. As reported at Breitbart on Saturday night: UPDATE 9:20 p.m.: The vote is coming soon. Senators are currently voting on cloture for the cromnibus. But a congressional GOP aide told Breitbart News that Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) is whipping votes in favor of President Obama's executive amnesty and against Cruz's point of order measure. Obama's man, Toomey, got it done. Thereby ensuring that, combined with his earlier support of gun control GOP conservatives in Pennsylvania will have something to remember the next time he faces another Obama-ally, ex-Democratic Congressman Joe Sestak. If Obama is going to install his allies in a Pennsylvania Senate seat, better the one that campaigns openly on the Obama platform rather than someone who plays the opponent until it's time to be whipping votes for the Obama position on amnesty and Obamacare. Senator Cruz, as pointed out by Daniel Horowitz, asked Speaker Obama – sorry, Sen. McConnell (R-KY) - "to commit to block every non-security nominee until Obama rescinds his edict on immigration" next year when the Senate is under GOP control. Thus far? The sound of crickets chirping. Why in the world would Speaker Obama want to agree to something like that and cause President Obama heartburn? And right on schedule in the wake of all of this, ex-John Kerry supporter Jennifer Rubin was busy writing her humorously named "Right Turn" column as the Washington Post's idea of a conservative. Rubin cannot abide conservatives because in fact, the impression the Post tries to leave to the contrary, Rubin is not a conservative. Apparently still baffled as to how she missed the Romney inaugural she spent her fury going after – yet again – Ted Cruz. This being the same columnist who sagely advised the GOP to "get over Ronald Reagan" and adopt the liberal obsession with big government, this attack accused Cruz of using the Senate as "a personal platform for him, not a position to perform well in delivering the best possible results for Texans or Americans at large." Notice that phrase "perform well?" That's liberal speak for more Big Government. More K Street sell-outs. More corporate welfare. More crony capitalism. So what just happened here this past weekend? Aside from what Senator Cruz calls "too many Republicans willing to be complicit" with K Street. In the words of For America's Brent Bozell: The 20 liberal Republicans who voted for amnesty are also dishonest. Every single one publicly denounced Obama's amnesty plan as illegal. They then voted for it. What disdain. Voters emphatically expressed their opposition to amnesty and elected candidates who campaigned as conservatives and promised to stop Obama. Barely one month later, liberal Republicans showed their true colors and voted to support Obama's unconstitutional amnesty. What this has done is formally lance the boil: There is now clear separation between true conservatives who uphold their oath to the Constitution and liberal Republicans who 'Gruber' their constituents. In other words, what Brent Bozell is describing is the logical end-game of what has been happening since Republicans decided ‘me-too Republicanism' was their key to victory, a decision made way back in the 1930's. The names change - Hoover Republicans become Landon Republicans become Wilkie and Dewey and Rockefeller and Ford and Bush and Dole and McCain and Romney Republicans. Now? Now we have the Obama Republicans. At Breitbart, awhile back, Reagan biographer Craig Shirley described the Obama Republicans thusly: What has altered the storyline in the past several years is not the emergence of the Tea Party but rather the permanent entrenchment of Big Government Republicans, aka Obama Republicans. President Obama has had that much effect on the national debate, which has had a direct effect on the national Republicans. The last gasp of principled conservatism may have come in 2010 with the rise of the Tea Party, but this also gave rise to the countervailing force of the Obama Republicans, resulting in the nomination of Mitt Romney in 2012. In spite of losing five of the previous six presidential contests, it is the Obama Republicans who now rule the party apparatus of the GOP. Obama Republicans have also spread out among the state bureaucracies, the academies, Wall Street, Detroit, and nearly all of corporate America. They have bought into Obama's Oligarchy of big business and big government doing business together, at the expense of the little guy. 'Speaker Obama' is only too happy to agree.
