One of the major problems with American politics stems from the two-party system. Party members tend to vote in a partisan way while supporting only what their own party wants to do. Good ideas can come from both parties but rarely receive bi-partisan support. We should eliminate this hindrance to democracy that these sparing parties cause and have every American and politician be independent and not be affiliated with any party. That way everyone votes the way they think they should vote and not vote the way they think their party wants them to vote. We would get a lot more accomplished this way, the people would be better represented and special interest groups would have little to no sway over election results because their influence is usually party centric.
